Ottawa stands with India following Delhi blasts: Anita Anand
New Delhi: Canada on Wednesday said it stands with India in the backdrop of the New Delhi blasts. This was conveyed when External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met his Canadian counterpart Anita Anand on the sidelines of the G7 foreign ministers' meeting in Canada.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also condoled the loss of lives in Monday's Delhi blasts. "Good to meet @SecRubio this morning at #G7 FMM. Appreciate his condolences on the loss of lives in the blast in Delhi. Discussed our bilateral ties, focusing on trade and supply chains. Exchanged views on the Ukraine conflict, the Middle East/West Asia situation and Indo-Pacific," Jaishankar wrote on X following his meeting with Rubio on the sidelines of G7 foreign ministers meet.

Anita Anand expressed her deepest condolences to Jaishankar for those killed in the explosion and reiterated that Canada stands with the people of India during this tragic time, according to a Canadian foreign ministry statement.


The ministers exchanged views on the ongoing law-enforcement dialogue between Canadian and Indian authorities. They discussed the progress being made on the Canada-India joint road map, which sets out a plan to enhance cooperation in key areas, including energy, trade and people-to-people ties, according to the statement. "Appreciated the progress in implementation of the New Roadmap 2025. Look forward to the further rebuilding of our bilateral partnership," Jaishankar wrote on X.

Meanwhile, Maninder Sidhu, Canadian Minister of International Trade, is currently here to find opportunities to advance trade and investment linkages between Canada and India. Sidhu will promote Canada's commitment to supporting and growing the well-established commercial ties, including AI, clean technology and digital industries.

Jaishankar also met the foreign minister of Mexico, Dr Juan Ramon de la Fuente, and discussed advancing their cooperation across business, trade, health and pharmaceuticals, as well as science and technology.

During his meeting with French External Affairs Minister, Jean-Noel Barrot, both leaders took stock of their strategic partnership, and discussed deepening their cooperation in multilateral and plurilateral formats.

He met UK foreign secretary Yvette Cooper and reaffirmed the India-UK Vision 2035 for deepening cooperation across key areas. Jaishankar also met with his Brazilian counterpart Mauro Vieira, German counterpart Johann Wadephul, and South African counterpart Ronald Lamola.
