Bahrain keen on boosting ties with India
Bahrain aims to boost business ties with India and improve conditions of the Indian workers in the Gulf state.
Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi on Thursday met the Bahrain Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, where the premier praised Bahrain-India ties and voiced appreciation for the role of the Indians in various developmental projects in Bahrain, the Bahrain news agency said.
Discussions on labour and other issues were the focus of talks between Ravi, who is on a three-day visit to Bahrain, and the Bahraini leaders.
Shaikh Khalifa praised the close ties with India in many fields, mainly in economic sectors, and expressed keenness for further cooperation with New Delhi.
"The two leaders also reviewed the latest international developments and topics of mutual interest," the agency said.
Ravi conveyed the appreciation of the Indian leadership of the care and attention the Indian workforce enjoy in Bahrain, which reflected the close friendship between the two countries.
Ravi also met the Bahrain Labour Minister Majeed bin Mohsin Al Alawi. Both the leaders discussed a number of issues related with the Indian workers in Bahrain in order to ensure Indian workers rights and security.
Al Alawi briefed the Indian minister about the efforts of the Bahrain Labour Market Regulatory Authority about the amnesty declared by Bahrain for illegal foreign workers and the impact of the new labour rules which will come into effect in Bahrain on January 1 2008.
