New Delhi: From January 1, 2026, Australia will remove tariffs on all Indian exports, unlocking fresh opportunities for labour-intensive sectors, commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal said on Monday.

In a post on social media platform X, he also said that India's exports to Australia increased 8% in 2024-25.

"As we mark the 3rd anniversary of the India-Australia Economic Cooperation & Trade Agreement (ECTA), we celebrate a partnership that has translated intent into impact. Over the past three years, the Agreement has delivered sustained export growth, deeper market access, and stronger supply-chain resilience, benefiting Indian exporters, MSMEs, farmers, and workers alike," Goyal said.

The ECTA came into effect December 29, 2022. In 2024-25, bilateral goods trade between India and Australia totalled $24.1 billion, with India's exports increasing 14% in 2023-24 and a further 8% in 2024-25. The two sides are now negotiating a comprehensive economic cooperation agreement.

The minister said that strong gains were witnessed across manufacturing, chemicals, textiles, plastics, pharmaceuticals, petroleum products and gems and jewellery. Agri exports recorded broad-based growth, with sharp increases in fruits and vegetables, marine products and spices, and exceptional growth in coffee. Gems and jewellery exports rose 16% in April-November 2025, he said, highlighting key wins under the deal.

"Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) on Organic Products was signed, marking a major milestone, enabling seamless trade and lowering compliance costs for exporters," Goyal said.
