Union Budget 2011: Rs 600 cr for environment renovation projects

A total of Rs 600 crore will go into Environment renovation projects, cleaning up of the Ganges and some important lakes and rivers. It is expected to reduce and maintain pollution levels for natural water bodies.

A total of Rs 600 crore will go into Environment renovation projects, cleaning up of the Ganges and some important lakes and rivers. It is expected to reduce and maintain pollution levels for natural water bodies.

It will be funded from the National Clean Energy Development Fund. Out of this fund environment renovation projects will get Rs 200 crore, another Rs 200 crore goes to National Ganga river scheme and the rest Rs 200 crore will go to cleaning up of important lakes and rivers apart from Ganges.

"The National Clean Energy Development Fund is mainly contributed by Coal India which gives Rs 50 for each tonnes of coal sold to the fund. The fund was announced last year, and this is for the first time, expenditure from this fund is being announced. Coal India contributes about Rs 3,000 crore for this fund," said CIL chairman, Partha S Bhattacharyya.
