TN announces pongal bonus for employees

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Government on Saturday announced 'pongal' (harvest festival) bonus for about 12.68 lakh employees and 5.38 lakh pensioners, entailing an expenditure of Rs 267.08 crore to the exchequer.
Employees belonging to 'C' and 'D' groups would get a bonus of Rs 2,500 each, equivalent to their 30-day salary, while officers of 'A' and 'B' groups would get a special bonus of Rs 1,000 each, an increase of Rs 175 over last year, an official press release said.
The Government had also hiked the "pongal gift" to pensioners and those availing family pensions from Rs 150 to Rs 300 each, the release added.
