Reports of JNNURM funds misuse received from states: Government

The Urban Development Ministry today said that it has received reports alleging misuse of JNNURM funds from several states.

NEW DELHI: The Urban Development Ministry today said that it has received reports alleging misuse of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) funds from several states.

The information was shared by Minister of State for urban development Saugata Roy in response to a question in the Lok Sabha.

"The government has received reports alleging misuse of funds for some projects including water supply approved under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) from the states of Bihar, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa and Uttar Pradesh, etc," Roy said.

The minister also said that the implementation of projects under the JNNURM was done by state governments and urban local bodies.

"In case of reported mis-utilisation of funds, the state governments are asked for taking appropriate action," Roy further said in his reply.
