RBI meets bankers on credit policy

The Reserve Bank of India has re-started the process of pre-credit policy consultation with banks.

MUMBAI: The Reserve Bank of India has re-started the process of pre-credit policy consultation with banks. On Friday, in a meeting with chiefs of large banks, including SBI, HDFC, and PNB, RBI governor YV Reddy sought their view on issues facing the banking system.

Bankers are understood to have represented with the central bank for reintro-ducing interest payments on cash reserve ratio balances with the cen-tral bank. Banks have also told RBI that interest rates on deposits con-tinue to be high despite the improvement of liquidity in the banking system.
