PC Mody to remain CBDT Chairman till February next year

The government has extended the term of PC Mody as chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) by six months, till February 28, 2021.

The appointments committee of Cabinet approved the re-appointment in an order issued on Monday. This would be the second extension for the chairman who was given an additional one-year term last year beginning September.

"The appointments committee of Cabinet approved extension in the re-appointment of Pramod Chandra Mody as chairman, CBDT for a period of six months with effect from 01.09.2020 to 28.02.2021 or until further orders, whichever is earlier," the order from department of personnel and training stated.


Mody would continue his term at a time when the government is continuously pushing reforms to make tax system simple and more transparent. Recent initiation of faceless assessment and faceless appeal - to begin from September 25 - is another step in this direction.
