National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development said it would provide a loan of Rs 16,000 crore for Bharat Nirman, the flagship programme of the UPA government.

NEW DELHI: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) on Thursday said it would provide a loan of Rs 16,000 crore for Bharat Nirman, the flagship programme of the UPA government.

The loan will be provided out of a special window created under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) for funding rural infrastructure, NABARD said in a release.

To this effect, a tripartite agreement was signed with Ministry of Rural Development and National Rural Roads Development Agency (NRRDA), the nodal agency for the rural road component of Bharat Nirman.

The loan would be released in the phased manner over a period of four years, it said.

The loan would be over and above the normal programme of RIDF, it said, adding NABARD has already sanctioned loan aggregating Rs 64,000 crore to various state governments for implementation of nearly 2.6 rural infrastructure projects.
