NABARD sanctions Rs 19 cr to Punjab for micro-irrigation

NABARD has sanctioned Rs 19 crore for micro irrigation Projects to Punjab Government under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund.

CHANDIGARH: NABARD has sanctioned Rs 19 crore for micro irrigation Projects to Punjab Government under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund.

The project envisages to bring 11,180 hectares under drip irrigation and sprinkler irrigation systems and establish 240 each of 0.40 hectares size demonstration plots, an official release issued here today said.

The project would also include construction of 300 farm tanks, which would benefit about 15,00 hectares in 20 districts of the state. The project would be implemented by Department of Soil and Water Conservation, Punjab, and would be completed by 31 March 2010, it said.

The total cost of the project is Rs 54.82 crore, of which, NABARD's RIDF assistance would be Rs 19 crore.

The project would benefit approximately 6,130 farmers in across the state.

With the sanctioning of these projects, the total RIDF assistance sanctioned to Punjab State Government for various purposes during the current year has reached Rs 223.48 crore, it said.
