Mizoram debt at Rs 5,114.20 crore: Lalsawta

He said that a plethora of economy and austerity measures were taken up by the government to control spending and wasteful non-plan expenditure.

AIZAWL: Mizoram Finance Minister Lalsawta today said that the state's debt as per the estimates of the office of the Accountant General was Rs 5,114.20 crore.

In a written reply to a question from Lalruatkima of the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF), Lalsawta said that the state government was making concerted efforts to have better financial management.

He said that a plethora of economy and austerity measures were taken up by the government to control spending and wasteful non-plan expenditure.

The finance minister also said that Rs 535.23 crore was kept in K. Deposit (Civil deposit) by 23 different state government departments due to unavoidable circumstances while the government was making all out efforts to restrict civil deposits.
