Merifin Cap to pour $40 mn into VC funds
European private investment group, Merifin Capital, plans to channelise up to $40m into Indian venture capital funds as well as direct opportunities for investing in lifescience and technology companies.
NEW DELHI: European private investment group, Merifin Capital, plans to channelise up to $40m into Indian venture capital funds as well as direct opportunities for investing in lifescience and technology companies.
“We are interested in investing in local upcoming venture funds in India. We will also look at direct opportunities where we can co-invest in a company along with venture funds that we participate in. The idea is to invest $30-40m over the next few years,” Christopher Wright, director, Merifin Capital said.
Mr Wright said that he has already initiatied discussions with two venture groups in India, but declined to divulge their names.
“In all we plan to invest in 3-4 new venture funds in India. We will also explore transactions which are in form of private capital being invested in companies that are public,” he said. Merifin Capital has expertise in early and late stage venture capital, buy-outs and turn-around investments.
Mr Wright, who is currently visiting New Delhi as part of a European Tech Tour Association (ETT’s) delegation, added that Merifin plans to invest a maximum of $5m per venture fund.
