Maharashtra gets Rs 300 cr for irrigation schemes

The UPA government has allotted Rs 300 crore to Maharashtra to carry out various irrigation schemes, says Union Minister of State for Water Conservation Jayprakash Narayan Yadav.

KOPARGAON: The UPA government has allotted Rs 300 crore to Maharashtra to carry out various irrigation schemes, Union Minister of State for Water Conservation Jayprakash Narayan Yadav said on Saturday.

He said the fund is sanctioned to construct small tanks, check-dams and lift irrigation in the state.

Talking to reporters, Yadav said "government is also thinking to clear all pending water conservation proposals for Maharashtra by this month".

While speaking at the Kopargaon taluka education society, Yadav said underground water level in the country was reducing which was a serious matter.

The Minister also said the Union government has taken a decision to spend Rs 6,000 crore from the 11th Finance Commission to improve the standards in the education sector.

Earlier he visited Saibaba temple at Shirdi and offered prayers.
