MUMBAI: Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan today approved Rs 4,028.57-crore budget presented by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority ( MMRDA) for 2013-14.

The budget has allocated Rs 622 crore for the Extended Mumbai-Urban Infrastructure project, Rs 600 crore for the monorail project and Rs 608 crore for the metro project, a statement issued here said.

The allocation of Rs 622 crore for the Extended Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project will be spent on developing six flyovers, a creek-bridge at Vasai between Naigaon and Bhayendar and over 90-km of road network in Vasai, Thane, Kalyan, Dombivli, Ambernath, Karjat, Badlapur and Arnala.

"The Authority has allocated Rs 608 crore for the metro rail project, which includes Rs 500 crore to be spent on the third Colaba-Bandra-Seepz metro corridor," it said.

The first Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar (VAG) Metro corridor and the first phase of Mono Rail project from Chembur to Wadala are expected to complete this year, the release said.

"The VAG metro corridor will offer the much-needed east-west connectivity and the first phase of monorail corridor will save time and fuel for the commuters on the Chembur-Wadala stretch," the release said.

MMRDA has made a provision of Rs 500 crore for the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP), which includes Rs 200 crore to be spent on the completion of the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road.
