Levy of road cess on petrol, diesel yields Rs 8,806 cr in 9 months

The amount collected from AED during the year 2009-10 and 2010-11 was Rs 16,591 crore and Rs 16,979 crore, respectively.

NEW DELHI: The government has collected about Rs 8,806 crore from additional excise duty (AED) on Petrol and Diesel in first nine months of the current financial year, minister of state for petroleum & natural gas RPN Sing told the Lok Sabha.

The amount collected from AED during the year 2009-10 and 2010-11 was Rs 16,591 crore and Rs 16,979 crore, respectively.

The ministry of finance has informed that currently an AED at the rate of Rs 2 per liter is chargeable on petrol and diesel.

This levy has been imposed on petrol under the Finance Act 1998 and on Diesel under the Finance Act 1999.

The Minister also said that the price of diesel and petrol (inclusive of AED) at Delhi is Rs 40.91/litre and Rs 65.64/litre, respectively.
