J-K govt says cross LoC trade to start from October

The Jammu and Kashmir government today said that trade across the Line of Control (LoC) from Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road and other routes is likely to start from October.

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government today said that trade across the Line of Control (LoC) from Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road and other routes is likely to start from October.

"If all goes well, the cross-LoC trade is expected to commence as early as October 2008," a government spokesman said.

As part of the series of confidence building measures with Pakistan, the Centre is committed to open the cross-LoC trade on Uri-Muzaffarabad and other points, he said.

A list of export items from Jammu and Kashmir has already been given to Pakistan.

A team of senior central and state government officers recently visited Salamabad in Uri to inspect the facilities being created, the spokesman said.
