International Trade Expo to be held annually
The International Trade Expo, hitherto organised biennially, will now be held every year.
The event that was recently held in Chandigarh generated business worth Rs 100 crore and trade enquiries to the tune of Rs 500 crore.
The five-day long event witnessed 110 exhibitors drawn from India and five foreign nations, including Pakistan.
The objective of the ITEX this year was to focus on India -Pakistan bilateral trade and to open up new areas of co-operation.
"At ITEX-2007, an array of products that are relevant to businesses and people of India and Pakistan were displayed, which they can buy from each other's country with considerable cost advantage. Also, the time taken for transacting deals across the border, particularly through Attari, is much less than either India or Pakistan sourcing products through third countries," PHDCCI President Sanjay Bhatia said in a statement here.
"Basic to enhancing economic co-operation between the bordering states is pubic awareness about what they can offer to each other," Bhatia said. PTI RR
ITEX 2007 focused on shoring up the bilateral trade through the official route since there is a possibility of adulteration of products flowing from clandestine routes, Bhatia added.
