India's gross GST collection rises by 14.7 per cent
The Indian government collected Rs 2,03,521 crore as Gross goods and services tax (GST) for the month of September, up 14.7% % against the same month last year, according to official data released on Thursday.

The cumulative gross collection for the first half of this fiscal (April-Sep), stood at Rs 12,46,278 crore, up 11.6%.

Refunds in September were down 3% (YoY) at Rs 27,001 crore.

In the September collection, CGST amounted to Rs 37,762 crore, SGST amounted to Rs 45,363 crore, while IGST stood at Rs 1,20,396.

Total Net GST revenue rose by 18.1% year-on-year, amounting to Rs 1,76,520.

India's Gross domestic revenue jumped 10.1% from Rs 1,25,334 crore to Rs 1,37,996 crore, while the Net domestic revenue jumped 13.5% to Rs 1,24,491.

Among major states, Maharashtra recorded the highest GST collection at Rs 29,986 crore in September, up 15% from Rs 25,973 crore a year earlier. Karnataka followed with collections of Rs 13,884 crore, registering 16% growth, while Gujarat’s GST revenue rose 17% to Rs 12,222 crore.

Uttar Pradesh recorded an 18% increase in GST revenue to Rs 8,882 crore in September 2026 from Rs 7,516 crore a year earlier. Telangana also reported 18% growth, with collections rising to Rs 5,327 crore from Rs 4,512 crore. Punjab’s GST revenue increased 18% to Rs 2,549 crore.

Assam recorded the strongest growth among the larger states, with GST collections jumping 88% year-on-year to Rs 2,415 crore from Rs 1,287 crore. Manipur followed with a 145% increase to Rs 92 crore, while Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland recorded growth of 46% and 39%, respectively.

Several states reported a decline in GST collections during September. Sikkim saw the sharpest fall, with revenue dropping 51% to Rs 194 crore. Jammu and Kashmir’s collections declined 29% to Rs 487 crore, while Uttarakhand recorded a 23% fall to Rs 1,277 crore and Himachal Pradesh saw a 21% decline to Rs 640 crore.

Tamil Nadu’s GST revenue fell 5% year-on-year to Rs 10,188 crore, while Goa’s collections declined 7% to Rs 494 crore. Puducherry recorded a 31% fall to Rs 179 crore, and Meghalaya’s collections declined 14% to Rs 164 crore.

Among other major states, Kerala recorded 11% growth in GST revenue to Rs 3,328 crore, West Bengal grew 6% to Rs 5,549 crore, Odisha rose 10% to Rs 4,356 crore and Madhya Pradesh reported 5% growth to Rs 3,198 crore. Rajasthan’s collections were largely unchanged at Rs 4,151 crore, compared with Rs 4,165 crore last year.
