India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection for the month of June stood at Rs 1.85 lakh crore, marking a 6.2% increase compared to the same month last year, government data showed Tuesday.

However, month-on-month, GST collection in June dipped as April 2025 saw a record Rs 2.37 lakh crore collected, followed by Rs 2.01 lakh crore in May.

In the month of June, collections of Central-GST, State-GST, Integrated-GST, and cess all rose year-on-year.

As GST completes 8 years, the government said that the collections have doubled over the past five years to reach a record Rs 22.08 lakh crore in FY25, up from Rs 11.37 lakh crore in FY21.

The collections in FY25 represent a 9.4% year-on-year growth compared to Rs 20.18 lakh crore collected in FY24, marking the highest-ever annual GST collection since the rollout of the indirect tax system in July 2017.

The domestic GST collections for June 2025 present a nuanced picture, while the overall growth appears muted, possibly due to the prevailing geopolitical uncertainties and their discernible impact on consumer sentiment.

Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Lakshadweep, and Ladakh have emerged as strong pockets of growth, data shows.

"This uplift suggests increased consumer activity and, importantly, a continued thrust on infrastructure spending by the government in these areas, which is a positive indicator for regional development," ANI quoted Saurabh Agarwal, Tax Partner, EY India, as saying.
