Haryana collects Rs 10,000 crore as taxes last fiscal
Haryana Government has collected Rs 10,000 crore as taxes last fiscal, which is a "record of sorts", state Excise and Taxation Minister Birender Singh said.
Besides, gross increase in VAT and excise had been on an all-time high.
He said the total VAT collection had touched Rs 6,440 crore, which was an about 20 per cent increase over last year. Excise collection was Rs 1,382 crore, showing a 10-year highest percentage growth of 12.53 per cent.
Under the heading of Central Sales Tax, the collection had been Rs 1,357 crore, even when the central government reduced CST rate from 4 per cent to 3 per cent, he said.
The minister said that in Entertainment Duty, 35 per cent increase was recorded and the total collection was Rs 18 crore in the last financial year as against Rs 13 crore a year ago.
Singh said that despite reduction in rates for Passenger and Goods Tax, the Excise and Taxation Department was able to cross its target of Rs 330 crore and collected Rs 338 crore.
However, in Local Area Development Tax, "the collections had been a meager Rs 42 crore due to litigations in the courts".
The better collection was due to strict enforcement of rules, he said, adding that a special emphasis was laid on collection of arrears, leading to record Rs 125-crore being collected under this head alone.
