Gandhinagar: Gujarat Finance Minister Kanu Desai on Wednesday presented his fifth consecutive state budget, pegging the 2026-27 outlay at ₹4,08,053 cr - an increase of ₹37,803 cr, or 10.2%, over the previous year.

Revenue expenditure has been estimated at ₹2,46,016 cr, while capital expenditure stands at ₹1,57,358 cr.

The budget identifies six regions - North Gujarat, Central Gujarat, Saurashtra, Coastal Saurashtra, Kutchchh and Surat - to be developed as growth hubs. Economic Master Plans (EMPs) have been prepared for each region.


To ensure balanced regional development, 80 projects worth over ₹6,600 crore have been proposed this year to boost industry, tourism, road connectivity and other infrastructure.

With Ahmedabad set to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and eyeing the 2036 Olympics, the budget allocates over ₹1,278 crore to develop an "Olympic-ready Ahmedabad" with world-class sports infrastructure and upgraded transport facilities.

To strengthen export capacity through targeted training, market support and trade promotion, the government will also establish the Gujarat State Export Promotion Council (GEPC), Desai said, adding that the Gujarat Textile Policy has strengthened the competitiveness of the state's textile industry at the global level. To support this growth, a provision of ₹2,755 crore has been made for the development of the textile industry.

Interestingly, the state govrenment allocated ₹6,737 cr for the holistic development of tourism and pilgrimage destinations, allied infrastructure, and civil aviation facilities.
