India's goods and services tax collections surged by 12.6% to an all-time high of Rs 2.37 lakh crore during April, according to government data. For the previous month, India's indirect tax collections increased by 9.9% YoY to Rs 1.96 lakh crore crore during March.

The GST mop-up was Rs 2.10 lakh crore in April 2024 -- the second highest collection ever since the roll-out of the indirect tax regime on July 1, 2017. In March 2025, the collection was Rs 1.96 lakh crore.

GST revenue from domestic transactions rose 10.7% to about Rs 1.9 lakh crore, while revenue from imported goods was up 20.8% to Rs 46,913 crore.


Refunds issuance rose 48.3% to Rs 27,341 crore during April.

Earlier, goods and services tax collections rose 9.1% to Rs 183,646 crore during February on the back of double-digit rise in the mop up from domestic sources. GST collections for January reached Rs 1.96 lakh crore, marking a 12.3% increase compared to the same period last year.

In December, GST collections stood at Rs 1.77 lakh crore, reflecting a 7.3% year-on-year rise. This was a slowdown from the 8.5% growth recorded in November, attributed to reduced consumption following the festive season.

In the Budget, the government projected an 11% increase in GST revenue for the year, estimating collections at Rs 11.78 lakh crore, including Central GST and compensation cess.
