GST collection rises 7.3 pc to Rs 1.77 lakh crore in December
India's goods and services tax (GST) revenue for December stood at Rs 1.77 lakh crore, marking a 7.3% increase compared to the same month last year, according to government data released on Wednesday.

The revenue distribution for December includes ₹32,836 crore from Central GST, ₹40,499 crore from State GST, ₹47,783 crore from Integrated GST, and ₹11,471 crore from cess.
GST from domestic transactions recorded an 8.4% growth, amounting to ₹1.32 lakh crore. Meanwhile, revenues from imports increased by 4% to ₹44,268 crore.
While December’s GST collection reflects robust growth, it is lower than the November mop-up of ₹1.82 lakh crore, which had recorded an 8.5% year-on-year growth. The highest-ever GST collection was achieved in April 2024, surpassing ₹2.10 lakh crore.
The data also highlighted an increase in refunds issued, which totaled ₹22,490 crore in December, a 31% rise compared to the same period last year. After adjusting refunds, the net GST collection stood at ₹1.54 lakh crore, reflecting a 3.3% growth.
This steady increase in GST collections underscores strong domestic economic activity and continued compliance improvements under India’s unified tax regime.
