Govt has paid more than Rs 10 cr as wages under NREGA

Government paid more than Rs 10 crore as wages to more than 3.3 crore households under its flagship National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA).

NEW DELHI: Government paid more than Rs 10 crore as wages to more than 3.3 crore households under its flagship National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA).

With such a vast amount of money being distributed as wages, the Rural Development Ministry has advised state governments to launch a massive campaign for opening savings accounts of NREGA workers in banks and post offices.

Incidentally Andhra Pradesh tops the list of states with the maximum number of accounts opened, with more than 8.4 lakh accounts. It is followed by Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh respectively.

Currently more than 1.6 crore accounts have been opened across the country in banks and post offices by the state governments.
