Goa's annual plan outlay fixed at Rs 1,430 cr

The Planning Commission on Tuesday approved a Rs 1,430-crore Annual Plan for Goa for the current fiscal.

NEW DELHI: The Planning Commission on Tuesday approved a Rs 1,430-crore Annual Plan for Goa for the current fiscal and complimented the state for its performance toward eradicating poverty and improving literacy rate.

The Annual Plan was approved in a meeting held here between Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, an official release said here.

The plan size could go up to Rs 1,595 crore subject to certain court orders, it said.

The plan outlay includes additional Central assistance of Rs 25 crore for projects of special interest to the state.

The Planning Commission complimented the state for achieving poverty ratio of 13.8 per cent in 2004-05, compared to the national average of 27.5 per cent, and increasing the literacy rate to 82.32 per cent in 2001 from 75.51 per cent in 1991.

However, the Commission pointed out that declining sex ratio and gender gap in the work force were matters of concern, it said.

Briefing the Commission on the performance objectives of the state, the Goa Chief Minister said "efforts were on to create investment friendly climate leading to more employment avenues and 100 per cent literacy will be achieved by 2010."

Speaking about the fiscal position of the state, Kamat told the Commission that Goa has already enacted the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) legislation and has achieved revenue plus position two years ahead of target.
