FM regrets slow pace of economic reforms

Chidambaram said even after more than a decade, the country was still debating over the left and right views over economic reforms.

NEW DELHI: Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Monday regretted the slow pace of economic reforms, but said a 10 per cent GDP growth was still possible.

"My only regret after being in government for so many years is -- we can be faster. We should go faster, seize more opportunities and do more reforms," he said at the launch of former bureaucrat N K Singh's book 'The Politics of Change: a Ringside View' here.

Chidambaram said even after more than a decade, the country was still debating over the left and right views over economic reforms.

"Given the complex politics in India, given the multitude of political parties... the best way to go forward is to seize the opportunity," he said.

"The 10 per cent growth rate is within our reach, we just need to make extra efforts," he said, adding high growth was not an accident but a result of policies and decisions taken from time to time.
