Entry tax collection declines in Bengal
KOLKATA: Revenue from entry tax collection declined in the last financial year as compared to the previous fiscal, West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra told the Assembly here today.

Replying to a query during question hour, Mitra said that there was no increase in entry tax collection in 2013-14.

While revenue under that head stood at Rs 1,283 crore during 2012-13, it subsequently declined to Rs 999 crore in 2013-14, he said. Mitra said that the government had also created a fund for compensating industry.

Entry tax could not be imposed unless such a fund was created, he said. Mitra said that nothing further could be said at the moment as the matter was sub-judice.
