DFF hikes its share of contribution by 50 pc for IFFI

PANAJI: Though Goa government has cut down its budget for the 38th edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI), the Directorate of Film Festivals has increased its contribution by 50 per cent, officials said on Saturday.
"We will be spending at least Rs 3 crore on IFFI this year, which is 50 per cent more than last year," Neelam Kapoor, the director of Film Festival, told reporters here.
Goa will host IFFI between November 23 to December three in its capital city of Panaji. The state government, which has been hosting the festival since 2004, has had a massive cut down on its contribution for the festival.
Official figures reveal that as against Rs 14 crore last year, the IFFI this year would be a Rs 6 crore to Rs 8 crore affair, excluding the DFF contribution. Of this Rs 3 crore would be spent on hospitality.
The director stated that DFF's increased expenditure will be incurred in setting up of a film bazaar, which this time will be in two five-star resorts in the capital city itself.

The organisers this year are acting contrary to its earlier practice of having film bazaars in the IFFI venue by setting up stalls. "We are doing away with the system of stalls from this year onwards," Kapoor said. Download
