Depts rolling out DBT to be exempt from expenditure cap:FinMin

NEW DELHI: The Finance Ministry today said the government departments which have rolled out scholarships or schemes under the Direct Benefit Transfer ( DBT) will be exempted from the expenditure cap in January-March quarter.

"All schemes wherein scholarships have to be paid to the beneficiaries under the DBT mode are exempted from 33 per cent and 15 per cent restrictions on the expenditure, for the last quarter and month of March respectively in the financial year," said an office memorandum of the Finance Ministry.

To curb rush of expenditure in the last quarter of the year, particularly in the month of March, the Finance Ministry had imposed restriction on the expenditure.

It was done in view of prudent financial management and expenditure rationalisation due to tight resource position.

Beginning January 1, the government is using the Aadhaar- platform to dole under DBT in 43 districts for 34 centrally sponsored schemes in a phased manner.

The second phase of the scheme will begin from July 1, covering 78 more districts. All the districts of the country would be covered under the DBT in a phased manner.
