Corporate bonds raises Rs 251,437 crore through private placements in 2011-12

Corporate bonds raised Rs 251,437 crore through private placements in 2011-12, a sharp 31% higher than what it was a year ago, according to Prime Database, a Delhi-based data provider.

The biggest contributor to the fund collection was financial institutions and banks who raised Rs 116,231 crore in last fiscal, 38% more than what they did a year ago. Public sector undertakings collected Rs 27176 crore ( Rs 12450 crore in 2010-11), state level undertakings raised Rs 4184 crore (Rs 1981 crore) and state financial institutions Rs 1575 crore (Rs 1425 crore).

However, money raised by private sector declined, from Rs 60137 crore to Rs 58134 crore, said Prithvi Haldea, Chairman & Managing Director, Prime Database, in a media statement.

According to the statement, 2008-09 and 2009-10 had witnessed mobilisation of Rs.174,327 crore and Rs.189,490 crore respectively. Deals with a tenor and put/ call option of above 365 days were reflected in the database.

Industry-wise break-up showed the financial services sector continued to dominate the market with a 77%, amounting to Rs 193,843 crore, share of the total collection while the power sector came second with a 9% share.
