Centre approves Rs 257.41 cr for Commonwealth Games projects
The Government approved an amount of over Rs 257 crore for upgradation and renovation of several venues for the Commonwealth Games, including those at the Delhi University and at the Jamia Millia Islamia.
Among the projects at the Delhi University are a stadium for Rugby, training fields for Rugby, a multipurpose training hall for netball and boxing, an indoor hall as training venue for women's wrestling, a training venue for outdoor track and field and necessary basic infrastructure for the venues, an official spokesperson told reporters after the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA).
The CCEA approved an amount of Rs 222.27 crore for the projects at the Delhi University, whose execution has been entrusted with the Engineers India Limited.
An amount of Rs 34.28 crore has been sanctioned for the projects at the Jamia Millia University that include an indoor hall as training venue for table tennis, training field for Rugby and necessary infrastructure for these venues, the spokesperson said.
RITES Ltd has been engaged for implementing the projects at Jamia.
Lawn Bowls Training Fields, with a projected cost of Rs 1.74 crore, will come up at Delhi Public School, R K Puram. This project would be executed by CPWD.
The total amount sanctioned for the Games-related projects adds up to Rs 257.41 crore.
These venues for the Commonwealth Games to be held in the capital in 2010 will be completed by December, 2009.
