Ajay Seth gets additional charge as Revenue Secretary

The appointment committee of the cabinet Tuesday handed additional charge of secretary, department of revenue to economic affairs secretary Ajay Seth with immediate effect. He will work as revenue secretary "till the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier", a notification issued Tuesday said.The post had fallen vacant following revenue secretary Sanjay Malhotra's appointment as the next RBI governor.

This will help in maintaining the policy continuity with the preparation for the next budget preparation in full swing. Moreover, the next goods and services tax council meeting is scheduled this month and is expected to deliberate on some key issue such as rate rationalisation and concessional regime for the insurance sector.
