16 PSUs in Assam makes turnaround

GUWAHATI: Around 16 Public sector units (PSU) in Assam have made turn around since 2001. Assam has taken to PSU reforms under the Asian Development Bank supported Assam Governance and Public Resource Management Project.

Some PSUs which has made turnaround include Assam financial corporation ( AFC), Assam Mineral Development Corporation (AMDC and Assam Fishery Corporation.

Assam had 51 PSUs of which 14 loss making PSUs were closed.These PSUs together have a capital investment of Rs 5973 Crore. The turnover of these units put together is around Rs 3994 Crore.

Already Assam has taken to performance monitoring and evaluation system (PMES) and started sending top brass of PSUs to various management institutions including IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore.
