'11.3% hike in excise revenue mop up'

Reflecting the great India growth story, the Union Government’s coffers also seems to be overflowing.

NEW DELHI: Reflecting the great India growth story, the Union Government’s coffers also seems to be overflowing. Finance Ministry has reported 11.3 percent growth in both customs and excise revenue mop up during June 2007 at Rs 17,496 crore.

With this, the indirect taxes collections have been pegged at Rs 66,228 crore during the first quarter of this fiscal, April – June 2007.

A Finance Ministry news release has pegged the growth in revenues on account of service tax at Rs 3001 crore in May, taking the total mop up in first two months of this fiscal at Rs 5189 crore.
