Women farmers’ role crucial for India’s agriculture, sustainable farming: BKS conference

She described women as embodiments of Annapurna and Durga, saying they traditionally prioritise their responsibilities alongside their rights.
Introducing the conference, Manju Dixit, All India Women Convener of BKS, called for a change in the traditional perception of women farmers. She said women farmers are increasingly adopting modern technology and contributing significantly to the growth of their families as well as the nation.
The session was also addressed by BKS All India President K. Sai Reddy, All India Vice President Sushila Bishnoi and Minister Veena Satish.
At the valedictory session, All India General Secretary Mohini Mohan Mishra said the goal of building a developed and healthy India by 2047 would not be achievable without a focus on Gau-Krishi-Vanijyam and organic farming.
Mishra urged the government to formulate policies promoting poison-free farming, a disease-free society and nutritious food.
BKS All India Organising Secretary Dinesh Kulkarni said providing dignity and recognition to self-reliant and independent women farmers would strengthen villages, families and society.
