Unfavourable weather condition continues in Upper Assam affecting tea production
According to reports from Indian Tea Association (ITA) the weather is hot and severe hailstorms have been reported which has resulted in considerable damage to tea crops.
ITA says that in the Doom Dooma tea estate the out turn in last month was poor and immediate prospects is not good. In Tingri, the out turn last month was about normal and wather was hot. At some tea estates there has been excessive rainfall for the month and presence of helopeltis pest is prevalent. Redspider mite is also prevalent and the crop is coming forward slower than usual.
In nagaon circle of central Assam unless there is rainfall shortly the leaf prspects generally will be poor. In lower Assam in Mangaldoi circle the out turn last month was very poor and immediate prospects very bad. Severe drought conditions persists in central Assam and prospects for this month appears to be poor, the ITA report says.
However, reports emerging from cachar shows that the out turn last month has been good and weather is favourable. Rainfall is much above the normal for the season to date.
