The share of wheat and rice in the country’s total crop output has increased since 2014-15, despite the focus to move farmers away from these crops, according to official data from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

The share of wheat and rice in the country’s total crop output has increased since 2014-15, despite the focus to move farmers away from these crops, according to official data from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The policy on pulses seems to have yielded some returns, as their share in output increased to 5.8% in 2021- 22 from 4.2% in 2014-15. Share of fruits and vegetables has also risen by 1.5 percentage points to 28.1%. ET takes a look:
