Tamil Nadu fixes sugarcane MSP at Rs 1,034 per tonne

The Tamil Nadu government has fixed the minimum support price (MSP) for procuring sugarcane at Rs 1,034 per tonne, which is Rs 222.20 more than the MSP fixed by the Union government for the current season.

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government on Friday fixed the minimum support price (MSP) for procuring sugarcane at Rs 1,034 per tonne, which is Rs 222.20 more than the MSP fixed by the Union government for the current season.

The Centre had fixed an MSP of Rs 811.80 per tonne of sugarcane having a recovery rate of nine per cent, an official release said here.

In the interest of farmers, the new price would be applicable even to the sugarcane procured on October 1, that is, since the commencement of sugarcane year.

The government also announced an incentive of Rs 9 for every additional recovery rate of 0.1 per cent, more than the stipulated nine per cent, it added.
