Soyameal export dips by over 50 per cent in July

The soyameal exports from India dipped by over 50 per cent to 75,862 tons last month compared to 1.6 lakh tons in July 2006, according to an industry estimate.

NEW DELHI: The soyameal exports from India dipped by over 50 per cent to 75,862 tons last month compared to 1.6 lakh tons in July 2006, according to an industry estimate.

Releasing the data for shipment of soyameal from the country, the Soyabean Processors Association of India (SOPA) said the maximum exports of the commodity, mainly used by the poultry industry, went to Vietnam at 36,478 tons followed by 11,400 tons to Malaysia.

Japan imported 8,150 tons of soyameal from India while Sri Lanka and Indonesia bought 5,804 tons and 5,745 tons respectively, the Indore-based association said.

Other countries which imported the Indian poultry feed included North Korea (957 tons), Kuwait (983 tons), the Philippines (1,825 tons) and UAE (4,413 tons).

With the significant drop during July, the total soyameal export also fell by 11 per cent to 32.55 lakh tons during October-July period of 2006-07 oil year against 36.71 lakh tons in the corresponding period of the previous year.

There was no export to China for the last two months while another leading importer Thailand stopped buying from May this year.

SOPA calculates the oil year from October to September while another trade body Solvent Extractors Association of India (SEA) considers it between November and October.
