Food Corporation of India expects that the small foodgrain storage depots being set up in four states, would be ready by July this year.

CHANDIGARH: Food Corporation of India (FCI) on Wednesday said that it expects that the small foodgrain storage depots being set up in four states, would be ready by July this year.

"Eight small depots which are being built in Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, will be operationalised by July 1 this year," FCI Chairman and Managing Director Alok Sinha said here.

Involving a total outlay of Rs 600 crore, Adani Agri Logistics Limited had been awarded the job of building up these depots on BOO (Build, Own and Operate basis) having a storage capacity of 20 metric tonnes per annum.

FCI would be paying rent of Rs 200 per quintal to the private party for 30 years, he said.

These depots would facilitate quick release of food grain under Public Distribution Scheme (PDS) in these states.

FCI has also constructed two modern storage and handling facilities in Moga and Kaithal, which would have capacities of two lakh MT.
