Rice export concession for Kakinada consignments removed

The government on Wednesday withdrew the concessions given to rice exporters allowing shipment from Kakinada port.

NEW DELHI: The government on Wednesday withdrew the concessions given to rice exporters allowing shipment from Kakinada port.

After protests by exporters on the immediate ban on non-basmati rice export, the government had on November two, last year allowed the export of rice, which reached the godowns of Kakinada city, till October 10.

According to the notification issued today by the Director General of Foreign Trade, the clause inserted in the November notification permitting the shipment was withdrawn.

The prohibition on export of non-Basmati rice was announced by the government on October nine and was notified on October 15, 2007.
