Rains hit several parts of north India; Delhi sultry
Rains lashed most parts of north India today, bringing down the temperature while Delhiites sweated it out in warm and humid conditions as little monsoon activity was recorded.
The Met forecast light to moderate rains or thundershowers at several places across the region.
Delhiites experienced muggy weather even as some parts of the capital received light showers.
The maximum was recorded at 36.5 degree Celsius, one degree above normal and up from yesterday's 34 degrees, while the minimum was at 27.8 degrees, one degree above normal and the same as yesterday.
Humidity was recorded between 53 and 86 per cent. Uttar Pradesh received light to moderate rainfall at some places in the past 24 hours and major rivers in the state have started receding at some places.
According to the MET department, 4 cm rainfall was received in Anoopsahar, 2 cm each in Aonla, Sahaswan, Etah, Khair and Naraini and one cm each in Hasanganj and Bagpat.
In Punjab and Haryana, the maximum temperature plummetted by up to three notches below normal making the weather bearable as widespread rains lashed the region.
While Chandigarh received 20 mm of rains, Amritsar was drenched by 0.2 mm of rainfall, the Met office said here.
Humidity levels ranged between 60 to 85 per cent in the region.
Amritsar settled at a high of 33.8 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal.
Ludhiana had a high of 32.6 degrees Celsius, while Chandigarh recorded 32 degrees.
The maximum at Ludhiana and Chandigarh both was three notches below normal.
