Punjab procures 3.3 million tonnes of paddy

The government agencies and private millers of Punjab have procured over 3.3 million tonnes of paddy till last evening, an official spokesperson said.

CHANDIGARH: The government agencies and private millers of Punjab have procured over 3.3 million tonnes of paddy till last evening, an official spokesperson said here on Tuesday.

The government agencies have procured 23, 85,644 tonnes of paddy (71.5 per cent) till date, whereas millers have lifted 9, 49,290 tonnes (28.5 per cent) of paddy, he added.

PUNGRAIN had procured 5, 13,652 tonnes (21.5 per cent) and MARKFED 5, 34,907 tonnes (22.4 per cent).

PUNSUP procured 6, 44,696 tonnes (27 per cent), Punjab State Warehousing Corporation (PSWC) procured 3, 76,045 tonnes (15.8 per cent) and Punjab Agro (PAIC) got 2,852,82 tonnes (12 per cent) of paddy.

The Central government agency FCI had procured 31,059 tonnes (1.3 per cent), the spokesperson said.

The state government has set up 1,544 procurement centers and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of paddy, he said.
