Punjab government stresses upon appropriate use of urea
CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government today launched a campaign to educate farmers with regard to the appropriate and respective use of fertilisers such as urea.

An official spokesperson of the Agriculture Department said here that farmers usually use urea in large quantity which is not required for crops like wheat, paddy and maize, rather it is harmful for the soil.

The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) at Ludhiana has innovated a 'leaf colour chart' which depicts various shades of colours of leaves of the crop of wheat, paddy and maize and the quantity of urea required for each shade of the leaf-colour, he said.

On one side of this plastic card, different shades of leaf colour are given and on the other side necessary information with regard to the usage of fertiliser, he added.
