Punjab government forms panel to review crop diversification plan

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government today said it has constituted an expert committee to review the progress of crop diversification programme.

The committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Punjab State Farmers' Commission Chairman G S Kalkat.

It has been constituted to monitor the outcome and experiences of current crop diversification programme across the state, and the Union Agriculture and Cooperation Ministry has allocated Rs 224.50 crore for this purpose, a government spokesperson said here.

The Centre had earmarked Rs 500 crore to promote crop diversification during the current financial year.

Other members of the committee will be vice chancellors of Punjab Agricultural University and Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Baldev Singh Dhillon and V K Taneja, respectively.

The committee will also provide vital inputs for preparing a roadmap besides scaling up the investments in its mission for agricultural diversification in Punjab.
