Punjab achieves record wheat procurement at 12 mn tonne

Punjab farmers were richer by Rs 14,110 crore as with this record wheat procurement, owing to the hard work of state peasantry and favourable weather.

AHMEDABAD: Various procurement agencies in Punjab have procured a record wheat crop of 12 mn tonnes till Thursday.

Government officials said that Punjab farmers were richer by Rs 14,110 crore as with this record wheat procurement, owing to the hard work of state peasantry and favourable weather.

The state government has mobilized the government machinery to ensure hassle free procurement and made payment of produce to the farmers within 48 hours of lifting of their produce from the mandis.

A spokesperson of the Punjab Government today that Sangrur district was leading in wheat procurement and in this district till now Rs 1481.62 crore had been deposited in the farmers accounts.

District Ludhiana was on second place in wheat procurement where Rs 1268.79 crore had been deposited in the farmers accounts.District Patiala was third place in wheat procurement where Rs 1268.20 crore have been deposited in the farmers accounts.
