Puducherry forms Agri Tech Management Agency
The agency moots to establish priorities for sustainable agricultural development, to draw plans for production-based sytem of activities of the farmers and implement plans through allied departments and training institutions.

PUDUCHERRY: Puducherry administration has constituted an 'Agricultural Technology Management Agency' (ATMA) to give a boost to the agri-related activities and empower farmers in the Union Territory.
Formed under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, the ATMA would be located at the premises of Farmers Training Centre at Thattanchavady near here.
It moots to establish priorities for sustainable agricultural development, to draw plans for production-based sytem of activities of the farmers and implement plans through allied departments and training institutions.
It also seeks to coordinate with non-governmental organisations, technical institutions, associations of farmers and other allied institutions to strengthen research and other activities, an official notification said.
The ATMA is also meant to facilitate market intervention for value addition of farm produce and facilitate empowerment of farmers.

It envisages a governing board under the chairmanship of Director of Agriculture of Puducherry government. The board would have as its other members the Principal of the Perunthalaivar Kamaraj Krishi Vigyan Kendra here, the managing director of government-owned Pondicherry Agricultural Service and Industries Corporation (PASIC), the joint directors and the deputy director of agriculture, officials of fisheries department and general manager of District Industries Centre.
There would also be representatives of farmers, including women, and those belonging to scheduled castes.
