NEW DELHI: The Government has set the production target of 259 million tonnes (MT) foodgrains for the year 2013-14. The state of Uttar Pradesh has highest production target of nearly 490 MT, followed by Punjab (288 MT), Andhra Pradesh (192 MT approx), Rajasthan (199 MT), and Haryana (181 MT) said Tariq Anwar, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries

Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY), National Food Security Mission (NFSM), National Horticulture Mission (NHM) and National Mission on Micro Irrigation (NMMI) are the major schemes and programmes implemented by Department of Agriculture and Cooperation for development of agriculture in the country.

RKVY is a project based scheme and 4870 projects were approved by the states during 2010-11 to 2012-13. During 11 th plan, financial assistance was provided to the farmers under NFSM for demonstration of improved crop production technologies (8.21 lakh hectare), distribution of seeds of high yielding varieties/ hybrids (174.77 lakh quintals), soil ameliorants/ micro nutrients (123 lakh hectare),integrated pest management (49.58 lakh hectare), improved farm machinery including water saving devices (74.70 lakh numbers) and enhancement of capacity building of farmers through farmers field School (49,151 number).
