Positive budget for agri sector:PwC

NEW DELHI: Consulting firm PwC described the Union Budget 2017-18 as a positive one for the agriculture sector in the country, Ajay Kakra, leader food and agriculture, PwC on agriculture said

"Overall positive Budget for agri sector continuing the focus on farm credit, irrigation schemes and crop insurance segments for facilitating the farming operations. The same impetus should be continued in the schemes like e NAM, contract farming reforms and other market reforms to facilitate the trade of agricultural commodities."

"The budget allocation of Rs 187,280 crore for agri, rural and allied sector has been the highest ever demonstrating increased focus for these sectors. Increased farm credit of Rs 10 lakh crore is a step further to have greater access to finance for small and marginal farmers for investing in quality input in farming operations. Further, the creation of micro irrigation fund of 5000 Crores can be very useful for further expanding micro irrigation facilities to farming community," he added.
