Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched two welfare schemes worth ₹35,440 crore for the agriculture sector, aimed at empowering farmers in 100 identified districts for the PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana and making India self-reliant in pulses production through Dalhan Atmanirbharta Mission.

Speaking at the programme organised at Indian Agriculture Research Institute at Pusa, the prime minister emphasised that the country not only needs to produce enough for domestic consumption but also to feed the global market.

Modi underlined that these schemes are designed to usher in a new era of self-reliance, rural empowerment and agricultural innovation, directly benefiting millions of farmers across the nation.

"The government of India will invest over ₹35,000 crore in these initiatives, reflecting its unwavering commitment to doubling farmers' incomes and achieving food and nutritional security for the country," he said.

The prime minister underlined that the inspiration for the PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana has come from the highly successful Aspirational District model.

"The selection of these 100 districts has been carried out with thoughtful consideration and based on three key parameters. First, the level of agricultural output per unit of land. Second, the number of times crops are cultivated on the same land within a year. Third, the availability and extent of institutional loans or investment facilities for farmers," he said.

Under this scheme, 36 different government schemes will function in a unified and coordinated manner. Modi named National Mission on Natural Farming, 'Per Drop More Crop' campaign for efficient irrigation, Oilseeds Mission to boost oilseed production, special focus on livestock development and localised health campaigns for livestock as some of them.
